How to prepare for JEE Main?

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is an entrance exam for admission to engineering colleges in India. It is divided into two parts: JEE Main and JEE Advanced. The JEE Main is the gateway for admission to B.E. and B.Tech programs across the country. Also, with lakhs of students vying for a limited number of seats, the competition is tough and requires the applicants to score well to get a seat with their desired institute. So in this article, we will see how we can use JEE Main answer key, syllabus, subject-wise preparation and some tips for JEE Mains exam.

Now that you have a clear idea about the paper patterns and the syllabus, let’s take a look at the subject-wise preparation tips:

Subject-wise JEE Main Preparation Tips

Each one of us has a favourite subject and a least favourite one. However, when it comes to the JEE exam, you must ensure that you give equal importance to all subjects if you want to make it to one of the best engineering institutes in India. Here are some quick subject-wise JEE Main preparation tips:

Physics

  • Start with understanding the concepts first. Physics is a conceptual subject and if you try to simply memorize definitions without understanding them, you will get stuck while solving problems or questions. Remember, this is an objective exam and you are not being tested on your ability to remember-recall-reproduce.
  • Make sure that once you have understood a concept, you solve problems on that topic the very same day.

Chemistry

  • Chemistry involves understanding concepts, solving problems and understanding chemical equations. Therefore, you must ensure that you have your basics absolutely clear.
  • Create notes for important concepts to quickly refer back to later.
  • Further, practicing problems and chemical equations is the best way to remember them.

Mathematics

  • This is an important subject and can help you boost your score if you prepare well. The only way to ace this subject is by practicing the problems as much as you can.
  • Find faster ways of solving them and also ensure that you cover all topics.

Here is what we recommend

JEE Main preparation might seem intimidating to most students especially since the result determines where they will spend the most important years of their college. If you are just starting your preparation for the JEE Main, then this is what we suggest:

  1. Before you start your JEE Main preparation, appear for a mock test. See how much you remember from your XIth and XIIth academic studies. Also, analyse the result well. This will give you a starting point and also a sense of direction to create a study plan.
  2. Further, based on your performance in the mock tests, create a study plan. Tackle your weakest subjects first. This will give you enough time to revise it a few times before the D-Day.
  3. You can either choose to do one subject (your weakest one) continuously for a few weeks or even divide the day into three slots for all three subjects. Whatever you do, ensure that you create a study plan which allows you enough time to practice and also revise. Further, follow the study plan sincerely.
  4. Once you have covered the entire syllabus and practiced the problems, appear for some more mock tests and also solve some previous years’ question papers. Get the JEE Main Answer Key from a good institute and compare your performance. Even if you got an answer right, try to assess if your approach was the best or if you could further improve it.
  5. Analyse your performance in this second set of mock tests and create another study plan to improve on your weaknesses and also strengthen your strengths more.

Summing Up

JEE Main preparation requires persistent hard-work and also a planned approach. Right from the first day that you start preparing, stay in control and ensure that you create a study plan taking all aspects into consideration. Most importantly, don’t burn yourself out. Eat well, sleep adequately, and also find some time to exercise. Finally, don’t stress too much about the exam, focus on the preparation and you will do well. Good Luck!
